“In the heat of the moment, the things that are in you will come out of you.”

This is the cornerstone belief of former NFL cornerback Ray McElroy, one that he applies deeply to his role as a father. To instill the right attitudes, beliefs and foundation in his four kids, Ray takes cues from his own father, as well as a page from his old professional playbook.

“In the NFL, one of the biggest things I learned was the importance of backing up teaching with training,” Ray says. “Each week, we would meet as a team, study our opponent and lay out a strategy for how to beat them. But then we’d leave the classroom and take the practice field so that we could train and perfect what we had been taught.”
